Robert E. Allen, 85, of New Bedford died Friday September 29, 2006 suddenly at home. He was the husband of Stella (Giusti) Allen.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late William H. and Winifred C. (Spicer) Allen, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Allen was formerly employed in sales and management for Brake and Electric Sales Corporation until his retirement.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was awarded the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with two bronze stars, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct medal. He was a member of the Andrew-Dahill Post 1531 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Whaling City Golf Course. His passions in life were his family and golfing.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dana W. Allen and his wife Rita of Swansea, and Robert E. Allen, Jr. and his wife Kim of Somerset; three sisters, Fern Fautz, Irene Lutz, and Norma Calhoun; and three grandchildren, Melissa E. Allen, Nicholas G. Allen, and Kayla L. Allen.
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday morning 9-11 AM prior to the service.
