ALEXANDRIA ---- Brenda Elaine Jones, 78, of Mountain View Road, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Brenda was born on November 2, 1947, in Pensacola, FL, the daughter of the late Eddie Jones and Cornelia (Lively) Coulter, and grew up in Defuniak Springs, FL, riding horses and having adventures with her sisters and neighborhood kids. Her
love of horses would be lifelong, a source of joy and friendship later on in New Hampshire.
Genuine, kind, and endlessly creative, Brenda touched the lives of many around her. She had a social network that spread from New Hampshire to Florida to Alaska and beyond, reflecting the many places she lived. She studied math at Florida State University, an uncommon major for women at the time, later teaching at the University of Hawaii, Plymouth State University, NHTI-Concord’s Community College, and at Fork Yukon High School in Alaska.
Brenda’s math side was complimented by her artistic gifts. She was a talented seamstress with a wardrobe that drew comments and compliments, as well as a quilter, hooked rug-maker, antique collector, and resourceful all-around craftsperson. But she truly came into her own as an artist painting portrait of friends, family, and Athabaskan community members in the village of Fort Yukon. Her latest accomplishment was building a treehouse art studio prior to her passing.
Brenda is survived by her son Ed Rose; daughter Jane Rose and her husband Ben Jurin; significant other Charles Ajootian; sisters Barbara Flatau and her husband Marshall, and Tanya Ramsey; nieces Amy Greer Thompson and Emily Greer Henderson; and nephews Marsh Flatau and Chandler Flatau.
There will be no calling hours.
