It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Urie Dumais of Derry, New Hampshire, who passed away peacefully in her home and surrounded by her children, at the age of 90. Betty was completely and fiercely devoted to her family. She was the bedrock of her home, providing an unwavering pillar of strength that carried her loved ones through every season of life. Her greatest joy lay in the love she showered upon her 10 children, 13 grandchildren, and 5 (1/2!) great-grandchildren. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Kenneth G. Dumais, whom she loved deeply and who passed away in 1993, as well as her cherished oldest son, who passed away in 2019.
Betty's life was guided by a deep, quiet faith, living out her beliefs through her actions every single day. She wove a rich tapestry throughout her life, creating a legacy of sanctuary and warmth. Her boundless capacity for kindness extended far beyond her immediate family, opening her home to take in those who required a soft place to land. Her community spirit also shone through her years of active dedication to both the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts, where she helped guide and nurture countless young lives.
Her hands were rarely still. As an exceptionally talented quilter, she poured her love into every stitch, crafting a beautiful, unique quilt for each of her ten children—a tangible piece of her warmth and strength that they will carry forward forever. She was a beautiful artist and talented in so many ways. She found her deepest peace in the beauty of nature, loving the vibrant colors of the autumn season and the quiet majesty of the mountains. Though her family spans generations, her presence will be missed by her family, church community, and all those who were fortunate to have known her.
A private funeral service will be held for her on November 7th, and a public celebration of life will be held in the spring, the date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty's memory to a local community shelter or youth scouting program.
