O’BRIEN, James Patrick “Slim” — of South Boston, passed away on October 18, 2026, following a period of declining health. Slim was born in Boston on September 23, 1947, the beloved son of the late George and Mary (Ridge) O’Brien.
A private person, Slim enjoyed his cars and collections, cherished his children, and remained connected to the South Boston neighborhood he called home throughout his life.
He was predeceased by his former wife, Linda MacVarish O’Brien, and his siblings Maureen, George “Butch,” John, Fred, and his twin brother, Joe. Slim is survived by his brothers, Paul and Mike; his children, Linda, Debbie, her husband Jay Gilman, Jaclyn, and James, Jr.; eight wonderful grandchildren; and many loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held privately from Casper Funeral Home in South Boston. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. In Slim’s memory, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
