Obituary

Mythili (Gopalan) Chandrasekaran, age 80, of Mansfield, formerly of India, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in the comfort of her home on Sunday, October 25, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Chandrasekaran Damal Nageswaran.

Born in the city of Vellore in the State of Tamil Nadu, India on January 19, 1946, she was a loving daughter of the late Gopalan Chithathur and Rajammal Gopalan.

She was very close to her sisters. Her elder sister Prema took care of her like a mom and her younger sisters Anu and Reva were her partners in crime. She loved to tell stories about how they went out at night to watch live street shows and how her father was furious when he found out. When she told these stories, she forgot her age and became that little girl again.

She was a calm and loving presence in the lives of all around her. All her relatives, many friends and the people who lived on her street fondly called her Mythili Maami, and her grandchildren called her “My Paati”. She was very well known for the beautiful kolams she put before her home on the street every morning.

She was devoted to her faith and loved visiting the Ramakrishna Math in Mylapore. Once she moved to the US in 2022, she started visiting the Vedanta Societies of Boston and Providence.

She loved singing bhajans and old Tamil movie songs in the car. She loved watching old Tamil movies—with “Maya Bazaar” being her favorite—and playing a good game of carrom.

She is survived by her devoted and loving children, Dr. Mathangi and her husband Dr. Ganesh, Gowrish and his wife Raji, and Aparna and her husband Nagarajan. She was the cherished grandmother of Gautam, Uthra, Aditya, Anuj, Manu and Ajay. She was the dear sister of Dr. Narayanan, Satya, Anu, and the late Lalitha “Lilly”, Prema and Revathi.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Saturday, October 31st from 9:30-11:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home,19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
