Obituary

Nancy (Maspons) Fernandez, 86, of Medway, passed away peacefully at her home on October 24. She was the beloved wife of the late Armando S. Fernandez, who passed away in 2021.

Born in Havana, Cuba, on September 1, 1940, Nancy was the daughter of the late Juan and Leonore Maspons. She came to the United States in 1963 and built a life filled with family, meaningful work, and cherished memories. She lived in Clinton for five years before settling in West Roxbury, where she lived for 25 years before moving to Bellingham, where she resided for 23 years. Three years ago, she moved to Medway.

Nancy and her husband, Armando, shared a one-of-a-kind bond and a love that was evident to everyone who knew them. They were affectionately known to family and friends by their special term of endearment for one another, “Gordi,” a name that became synonymous with their unique connection and the love they shared. Their relationship was truly special, and the memories of their life together will forever hold a cherished place in the hearts of those who knew them.

Nancy dedicated more than 20 years of her career to serving as a special education teacher for the City of Boston. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Boston University and her master’s degree from Boston State College. Through her years of teaching, she devoted herself to her students and to a profession that made a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

In her free time, Nancy enjoyed gardening, shopping, discovering new restaurants with her beloved husband, traveling, and spending time at the beach. She found great joy in feeding and watching the birds in her yard and spending time with her beloved doggies. She also loved playing canasta at the senior center and getting together with friends, enjoying the laughter and companionship that made those moments so special.

Nancy had a special gift for preparing delicious Cuban meals, both for holiday celebrations and everyday family gatherings. Her cooking brought loved ones together around the table and was a cherished expression of the love she had for her family. The traditions she carried from her Cuban heritage became a meaningful part of family life and created memories that will be treasured for generations.

Nancy also held a special devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her faith was an important part of her life, bringing her comfort and reflecting the values she held dear.

Above all, Nancy’s greatest joy in life was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether gathering around the table for one of her delicious meals, celebrating holidays, or simply enjoying time together, these moments meant everything to her. Her love and devotion to her family were at the heart of who she was, and the warmth she brought into their lives will never be forgotten.

Nancy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Armando S. Fernandez, and her siblings, Jorge Maspons and Beba Fernandez.

She leaves behind her loving children, Armand A. Fernandez and his wife, Kathy, of Foxboro; Joseph I. Fernandez of Medway; and Cristina M. Bartlett and her husband, Scott, of Medway. She was the proud grandmother of Michael, Kayla, Danielle, Brandon, Owen, and Camryn, and the loving great-grandmother of Hannah, Russell, Henry, Zoe, Cora, and Connor.

Nancy will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, treasured family traditions, lasting friendships, and countless memories that will continue to bring comfort and joy to those who knew and loved her. Her spirit will live on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the many special moments that will forever be remembered.
