Michael W. Pippins, 66, beloved husband, father, friend, and entrepreneur, passed away on October 13, 2026, in Boston, Massachusetts, surrounded by love.
Michael lived a remarkable life, defined not simply by what he accomplished, but by the people he loved, the relationships he nurtured, and the lasting impact he made on those fortunate enough to know him.
Michael was the consummate gentleman, always impeccably dressed, with great hair and a warm, genuine smile that lit up his eyes. Generous and kind, he had a remarkable ability to make everyone he met feel special. Whether speaking with a lifelong friend or someone he had just met, Michael gave people his full attention and made them feel genuinely valued. He carried himself with quiet confidence, warmth, and grace.
Above all, Michael found his greatest happiness in the life he shared with his beloved wife, Karla, and their family. He was a devoted and loving father to Lauren and Brooke Pippins and Henry and Tucker Smith. His love for his family was an enduring part of who he was.
A respected leader in the semiconductor industry, accomplished engineer, and visionary entrepreneur, Michael founded Persimmon Technologies, serving as its CEO and building it into a leading American manufacturer of advanced robotics and automation technology for semiconductor manufacturing. He took great pride in the company he built and, even more importantly, in the people who helped build it alongside him.
Born in Dalton, Georgia, Michael was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and New England Patriots. He had a passion for restoring historic New England homes, preserving their character and craftsmanship. Golf held a special place in Michael’s heart, both for the game and the friendships it fostered. He was a member of Myopia Hunt Club, Gulf Stream Golf Club, and Gulf Stream Bath & Tennis Club and a parishioner of the Basilica of St. Edward in Palm Beach, Florida.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Violet Pippins. He is survived by his wife, Karla; his children, Lauren, Brooke, Henry, and Tucker; his sister, Pam Young, and her husband, Michael; and his niece, Morgan Young.
Throughout his illness, Michael was surrounded by exceptional medical professionals whose compassion and dedication brought comfort to him and his family. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Bradley McGregor, Sheila Enderby, RN, and the many physicians, nurses, and caregivers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. A special thank you to the nurses and staff on the 16th floor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for the extraordinary love, kindness, and compassion they showed Michael and his family.
Michael’s legacy lives on through his contributions to the semiconductor industry, the friendships he cherished, and, most profoundly, in the love he gave and received. Those who loved him will miss him beyond words, but the sadness of his passing will never eclipse the extraordinary joy of having shared his life.
A memorial service will be held at the Basilica of St. Edward in Palm Beach, Florida, on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Michael’s honor to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or the Basilica of St. Edward in Palm Beach, Florida.
