Dan Clifton Elliott of Eastham passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026, at the age of 85. Born in Fresno, California, on April 13, 1941, to the late Gladys Miriam Ivy and Robert Badger, Dan grew up across the country, attending schools in Ames, Iowa, and Pullman, Washington—before graduating from East Lansing High School and earning his degree from Michigan State University. Though he briefly taught, the pull of the ocean proved stronger. He eventually made his home in the Eastham/Orleans area of Cape Cod, where he spent years operating fishing vessels and, later, became the longtime owner of the Orleans Dairy Queen.
For more than two decades, he ran the shop with the same steady dedication he brought to everything he loved, before retiring to the family farm in the Berkshires.
Dan was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of many years, Mary-Jo (Susie) Elliott; his children, Daniel Duffy Elliott and his wife Megan, Sarah Duffy Elliott, and Patrick Duffy Elliott and his partner Samantha Phillips ; and his cherished grandchildren, Liam Conroy, James Elliott, Maura Elliott, Sunshine Grace Elliott and Leif Phillips. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Duffy Brown and Michael Brown, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Thomas Francis Duffy III.
Those who knew him will remember a man who loved history, politics, and sports, especially basketball, swimming, and yoga. He loved coaching and spent many years volunteering as a basketball coach for Eastham Recreation. Dan found particular joy in the simple, steady companionship of dogs. Over the years, he adopted several dogs who became constant companions on his favorite beach walks. That quiet presence by the water, with a dog at his side, was pure Dan. He was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be missed dearly.
The family is deeply grateful for the warm thoughts, prayers, and support they have received during this difficult time.
