Obituary

Michael “Mike” Basile, 58, of Gilmanton, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

The son of Charlotte and Michael E. Basile Jr., Mike was born in Woburn, Massachusetts, on March 26, 1968. He was a 1986 graduate of Andover High School.

Born the eldest of four children, Mike made an early entrance into the world, a fitting beginning for someone who would spend his life doing things his own way. Fiercely independent, strong-willed, and determined, he was a fighter from the start. Through every triumph and every hardship, he met life with confidence and perseverance, carrying that fighting spirit with him until his final days.

He had a gift for making people laugh when they least expected it. Although his stubborn streak was well known and often the subject of good-natured stories, those who knew him best understood that beneath his rugged exterior was a generous, sentimental soul with a profound love for his family and friends.

A skilled craftsman and dedicated worker, Mike owned and operated his own painting and remodeling business. He took tremendous pride in his work and found great satisfaction in transforming homes and completing projects with his own hands. He possessed an extraordinary work ethic and was always willing to lend a hand, whether helping a friend, assisting family with home improvements, or tackling a challenging project.

Outside of work, Mike found joy in the freedom of the open road. An avid motorcycle enthusiast, he loved riding his Harley-Davidson Road King and attending motorcycle rallies in Laconia, New Hampshire. Riding gave him a sense of freedom and adventure that perfectly reflected his independent spirit.

Mike also had a lifelong passion for automobiles, particularly classic American muscle cars. One of his proudest accomplishments was restoring his 1974 Pontiac Firebird 455. He enjoyed countless hours working on cars, sharing his knowledge, and creating lasting memories with family and friends.

Although his journey ended far too soon, Mike’s fighting spirit, laughter, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He was deeply grateful for the attentive care, kindness, and support of dear friends and family throughout his life.

He found great comfort, unconditional love, and companionship in his devoted dog, Rina, who held a special place in his heart.

Mike was predeceased by his parents, Charlotte and Michael E. Basile Jr.

He is survived by his two sisters, Christine M. McDonnell and her husband, Steven, and their children, Ian and Luke McDonnell, of Andover, Minnesota; and Catherine M. Jurgen and her husband, Mark, and their sons, Cameron and Blake Jurgen, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his brother, Paul M. Basile, and his wife, Leela M. Bakshi, of Bradford, Massachusetts, and their children, Jonathan and Ryan Basile, and Aidan, Alexandra, and Abby Scanlon.

Mike also leaves behind beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends.
