Leonard J. Mediavilla at the age of 79 years died on October 12, 2026 after battling an illness. He died peacefully in the hospital with his family by his side.
Leonard is pre deceased by his parents and a sibling.
For 57 years he was a devoted, dedicated and beloved husband to his surviving wife. He also leaves behind 2 sons. Leonard graduated from a technical high school and received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He worked 51 years in the utility industry. He volunteered in various fields and held multiple positions in committees and finance. He also served as a second selectman.
Leonard was a very hardworking talented handyman and artist. In his early adult life he designed, drew and drafted blueprints and architectural works for 3 homes that he hand built. If it didn’t require a licensed contractor he took care of it himself. He would spend countless hours and many weekends over the course of 7 years to finish building his last house.
He was an avid conservationist, and greatly appreciated efficiency. In addition to working on houses, he regularly worked on cars doing his own maintenance and repairs.
He loved his family dearly as a child and when he started his own family he did everything he could for them. He loved dogs. If he ate at a restaurant that served any steak with a bone, he would order it just to bring the bone home to his family’s dog.
He always was thinking, tinkering, and finding creative ideas for materials and what they could be used for. He disliked wasting food or materials. He was an intelligent man who was often building devices that provided out of the box solutions for simple and complex problems.
He designed and built a bicycle rack that attached to the tow receiver behind a vehicle. He made it out of square aluminum tubing scrap metal. It was braced with braided metal wire. Metal rods covered with garden hoses supported the bicycle frames holding them in place. It worked perfectly long before all the mass produced ones.
His presence, love, laughter and smiles will forever be remembered. Services for Leonard will be private.
