Philip J. Jordan Jr., 84, of Roslindale and Framingham, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2026 with his devoted family by his side. Born on June 29, 1942, Philip grew up in Hyde Park, Massachusetts. He was the son of Philip J. Jordan Sr. and Evelyn Jordan (née Bown).
After graduating from Hyde Park High School in 1960, Philip joined the Navy. He served as a Seabee in Thailand, helping build military airstrips. Following his service, he worked as a union carpenter in Boston and contributed to the construction of the current Boston City Hall. After several years in the trade, Philip joined the Boston Fire Department on Christmas Eve 1969. He served faithfully and proudly for 31 years, first in Allston/Brighton and later at Engine Company 48/Ladder 28 in Hyde Park. He retired in 2000.
Philip enjoyed gardening and took great pride in cultivating a beautiful array of vegetables and flowers. He selected seeds from catalogs, started them indoors, and carefully nurtured them until they were ready to be planted outside. An avid reader, he especially enjoyed spy novels by Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler. He also loved music, with Frank Sinatra at the top of his list. Philip enjoyed boating and owned a runabout for many years; being on the ocean near Marshfield was one of his favorite pastimes. He also appreciated beautiful cars—his one indulgence—and particularly favored Cadillacs and Lincolns.
Above all, Philip was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend who was always there for those he cared about most.
Philip is survived by his brothers, Thomas E. and Paul F. Jordan; his nephew, Thomas C. Jordan; his niece, Michele Burns, and her husband, Steven; his great-nephew, Brian Burns; and his lifelong friends, Bob and Pat McCue. Philip was predeceased by his loving brother Gerald. He also leaves behind many other friends and loved ones whom he cared for deeply throughout his life.
