John David “Johnny” Mathis, 76, of Ocilla,Georgia, died Monday, October 6, 2026, at Pruitt Health in Ocilla, Georgia.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Mathis was born March 7, 1950, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late David Barton & Annie Coleen Mixon Mathis. He was a 1968 graduate of Irwin County High School and later attended Valdosta State University with a major in Biology. Mr. Mathis worked as an Electrician for Pioneer Housing. He enjoyed reading crime dramas, watching the Atlanta Braves and he especially loved animals. Mr. Mathis was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Davis Mathis; a son, Matt Mathis; a sister, Martha Ann Rhodes (Foster); a sister-in-law, Ronda Davis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jackie Davis and his maternal grandparents, Warren & Martha Mixon.
The family would like to thank the Pruitt Nursing Staff as well as Pruitt Hospice for the kind and compassionate care given to Mr. Mathis.
