Obituary

Of Natick, formerly of Wellesley, passed away on October 5, 2026. Born on September 11, 1944, in Erie, PA, to Robert Charles and Ann Harrington Henzi, he didn’t meet his father until he was nearly 2 after his father returned from the European theater of WWII. During his childhood, his family moved to Sikeston, MO, where he was raised with his brothers Chuck, Thom and Jim.

He left Sikeston for Annapolis, MD, to attend the U.S. Naval Academy for his undergraduate studies, and, after receiving a Bachelor of Science, he completed the Navy’s highly selective Nuclear Power Program. He spent the subsequent years serving in the Navy, largely in the Mediterranean during the height of the Cold War. During this time of military service, he served as an officer in two nuclear-powered fleet ballistic missile submarines. This time in the Navy shaped him as a patriotic, service-minded citizen.

Shortly after his time in the military, Mike was accepted to Harvard Business School and relocated to the Boston area for his MBA studies. It was during this time in business school that he met his future wife, Margery “Margie” Kahn, and began his life as a Bostonian. After living in Charlestown through his Harvard years, graduating in 1973, he and Margie settled in Wellesley.

Professionally, Mike worked as an equity research analyst focused on industries including agriculture and industrials, and, over time, focused on the energy sector. After many years at State Street Research, he also spent time at firms including Stephens Inc., Gerard Klauer Mattison & Co., and Sterne Agee. He was a leading energy industry analyst, also spending time on his own boutique firm, Energy Indicators, and having been quoted in publications including The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, The Boston Globe, The New York Times and in The Oil and Gas Journal.

He and Margie welcomed their son, Robert “Robb,” in 1978, and their daughter, Jennifer “Jenny,” in 1982. He spent a lot of time in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, while his kids were at home - the Henzis were a “mountain family” - skiing every weekend for years on end and spending much of August there between school years. He loved the Red Sox, the Celtics and the Patriots, and shared his love of Boston sports with his kids. He loved the family dog Sam, a huge and kind golden retriever, and Izzy, the springer spaniel that came after.

He was a passionate golfer, playing every Saturday and Sunday at his beloved Wellesley Country Club for decades, even winning the Senior Championship at one point. He was a bookworm, always making his way through historical nonfiction, espionage novels and any number of other kinds of books. He remained connected to his Harvard Business School community and loved getting involved in planning his class reunions. Mike was loyal, passionate and proud. He had grit, but also a sense of humor that kept everyone on their toes.

Mike was loved by his family and friends and will be missed greatly. He is survived by his wife, Margie, of Natick, MA; his son, Robert Henzi, of Austin, TX and his wife Pamela; his daughter, Jennifer Lavin, of Dublin, Ireland and her husband Travis; his grandchildren Ruby, Leo, Matteo and Emmett; and his brother, Thom and his wife Karen. He was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Ann, and his brothers Chuck and Jim.

Visitation will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 477 Washington St. (Rt. 16) Wellesley on Tuesday, October 13th from 10:30-11:00am, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 11:00am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Burial is private. Shiva will immediately follow the funeral service at Wellesley Country Club 300 Wellesley Ave. Wellesley. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mike's memory to the Dana Farber Jimmy Fund 1 Harvard St., Brookline MA 02146-9795.

May his memory be a blessing.
