SALEM- Irene R. (Brooking) Norton, 89, wife of the late Arthur R. Norton, of Salem, died Sunday morning, June 30, 2002 in a local nursing home.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late William O. and Lillian R. (Jones) Brooking.
A lifelong resident of Salem, she was a graduate of Salem High School in 1930 and Salem State College in 1934. She was a lifelong member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and was a member of the Salem State College Alumni Association and the Peabody Essex Museum.
Prior to her retirement in 1985, she was a research librarian for 18 years at the then Essex Institute in Salem. Before her marriage, she was a teacher in Bedford at the junior high level.
Mrs Norton is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marcia E. And Neil J. Coldwells and one grandson, Dale N. Coldwells, all of Oftersheim, Germany, and several nieces nephews and their children. She was the sister of the late William H. Brooking.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 2 pm in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem.
