Marie Stokinger Van Dam, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born on March 18, 1956, in Boston, MA, Marie lived a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Marie was the cherished daughter of Charles and Eleanor Stokinger, who, along with her brothers Charles and Leo, predeceased her. She grew up in a warm and nurturing environment, where she developed her love for family and her knack for making everyone feel special.
Marie married the love of her life, Arie Van Dam, on June 10, 1979. Together, they built a beautiful life over 47 years of marriage, filled with shared dreams and cherished memories. Marie was her happiest spending time with her daughter Christine, son Mark, his wife Lindsey, and her four adored grandchildren: Joseph, Natalie, Jacqueline, and Elizabeth. Her family was her pride and joy, and she loved nothing more than spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating memories that they will treasure forever.
Marie loved going to the beach, feeling the sand between her toes and the sun on her face. She loved to travel and was an avid shopper who would always find special presents for her grandkids and say “they were giving it away”. Her adventures often became the backdrop for her lively conversations, as she was known for her love to chat with everyone about their lives while enjoying a cup of coffee. Her curiosity and genuine interest in others made her a beloved companion to many. A woman of deep loyalty and trust, Marie was a steadfast friend and confidante. She was always there with a listening ear, wise counsel, or a word of encouragement. Her warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her, and her memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to call her family and friend.
