Wesley Walker
November 29, 1950 – September 19, 2026
Wesley Walker, 75, of Ocilla, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, on November 29, 1950, Wesley lived a life defined by adventure, service, hard work, friendship, and an unmistakable zest for living life to the fullest.
Wesley proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant and serving as a Special Forces Green Beret. During his military service, he trained as a paratrooper, an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for skydiving. What began during his years in the Army became a beloved sport and an enduring part of who Wesley was.
After completing his military service, Wesley returned to his hometown of Fitzgerald and spent his working years in a variety of occupations. He briefly served with the Fitzgerald Police Department before working in the construction of manufactured homes, delivering products for an aluminum manufacturing company, driving for Ben Hill County Public Transport, and, more recently, becoming a valued member of the Walmart retail team.
Wesley's love for skydiving eventually brought together his passion for adventure and his love for his hometown. At Paulk Park and the Fitzgerald Municipal Airport, he organized and participated in the annual Fitzgerald Boogie, an event that welcomed skydivers from across the country to Fitzgerald. Through the years, Wesley helped make the event a special gathering for skydivers and friends while bringing national attention to the community he loved.
Wesley was also a man who believed in giving back. A former member of United Central Methodist Church, he shared his construction skills and experience in support of Habitat for Humanity, using his talents to help others build better lives.
Above all, Wesley will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, adventurous spirit, generous nature, and love of living life to the fullest. He had a way of making an impression on everyone he met and a passion for experiences that made life memorable. His love of adventure, his service to his country, and his dedication to his family and community will remain an important part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Wesley was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Hendley Walker; his mother, Ruth Burkett; and his father, Leonard Walker.
He is survived by his partner, Judy Bryant; her daughter Crystal Johnston whom he loved as his own; his daughter, Andi Walker Bowen of Fitzgerald, Georgia; his step-daughter, Amber Bishop Leakway of Fitzgerald, his step-son, Stacy Johnson of Fitzgerald, and his brother, Tim Walker of Dallas, Texas, along with extended family, friends, fellow veterans, members of the skydiving community, and countless others whose lives he touched.
Wesley's life was anything but ordinary. He served his country, embraced adventure, gave of himself to his community, and never seemed content to simply watch life happen. He chose to jump into it—literally and figuratively. His spirit, his stories, his laughter, and his larger-than-life presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
