Edward P. “Paul” Joyce Jr. of Dedham, formerly of Watertown, passed away on September 19, 2026. Husband of the late Carole A. (Buscone). Beloved father of Michael E. and his fiancé Kim of Peabody, John S. and his wife Jill of Norwood, and Julia M. Hall of Burlington, NJ.
Devoted son of the late Edward Paul Joyce Sr. and Cecilia Julia (Supple). Paul was pre-deceased by his brothers Thomas V. Joyce and Phillip J. Joyce, his sisters Nancy P. Fitzgerald and Mary J. Wilson, his son-in-law Wayne T. Hall, and his grandson Kevin P. Joyce.
Paul is also survived by his sister Gloria C. Joyce of Brighton, his brother Richard T. Joyce of Falmouth, his grandsons Joseph M. Joyce and his fiancé Sandra of Malden, and Christopher J. Joyce of Malden, his great-granddaughters Juliana M. Joyce and Adelyn A. Joyce of Malden, and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Paul is also survived by his dear friend Helen Nehiley of Dedham.
Paul’s fascination with nearly any type of moving vehicle began in his teens, working on the “fruit truck” and later at Murphy’s Filling Station in Brighton. After graduating high school, Paul joined the Army and learned his trade as a crane operator. Upon completion of his three-year enlistment, Paul worked for over forty years in the construction trade, and he became a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (I.U.O.E.) Local 4 in 1966. When seasonal layoffs occurred, Paul would find whatever work he could to support his family, including a week at Logan Airport plowing the runways after the Blizzard of '78, and he would also write letters to the Union and to his local & national politicians seeking help with finding employment.
Weekends were often spent piling his own three kids, and many others in the neighborhood, into his old Chevy station wagon, “The ByeBye Car”, for an adventure. Often, he would take them to Castle Island, where Paul would hang out with friends and photograph container ships and barges in Boston Harbor while having no idea where all the kids were or what they were doing.
Paul was a long-time member of the Castle Island Association, the Brockton Fire Museum, the Boston Street Railway Association, the “Northeast Rockbusters” chapter of the Historical Construction Equipment Association, and the Antique Truck Club of America (ATCA).
The Rockbusters, the ATCA, and all the friends he made through those organizations brought Paul much joy over the years, when he would spend many weekends traveling throughout the Northeast to attend antique truck shows or other truck-related events & meetings. The highlight of each year for Paul was to attend the ATCA’s annual national meet in Macungie, PA, which he attended for about 40 years starting with its inception in 1981.
The Joyce Family would like to thank Traditions of Dedham, Bridges by Epoch, and Caring Hospice for all their loving care and support for Paul over the years.
Visiting hours will be held at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA, on Thursday, September 24th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Burial will be held privately by the family, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
