Bernard R. Thomas (72) of Holbrook passed away on September 9, 2026, at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Rufus Thomas and Alice Jackson. Bernard gave his heart to Christ on September 17, 1987, at Brooklyn Tabernacle. From that day forward, his faith became the foundation of his life and guided him throughout his journey. In 1989, he graduated from Teen Challenge Brockton, marking an important milestone in his life and faith.
Throughout his life, Bernard was a hardworking and dedicated man who found purpose in serving others. While living in New York, he worked as a manager at Odd Lot and later as an ambulette driver, where he cared for and assisted those in need.
After moving to Massachusetts, Bernard continued his commitment to helping others. He worked at Taunton State Hospital and later served as a transportation driver for the Boys & Girls Club in Brockton, where he provided transportation and support to the young people in his community.
In June 2000, Bernard became a devoted member of Brockton Assembly of God, where he faithfully served for many years. He served on staff as an usher and greeter, welcoming each person with kindness, warmth, and a genuine heart for others. He also faithfully volunteered at the church food bank, giving his time and compassion to help those in need.
Outside of his work and church service, Bernard enjoyed the simple things that brought him happiness. He loved fishing and spending time outdoors, and he especially enjoyed watching sports. A true New Yorker at heart, Bernard proudly supported his favorite New York sports teams. He also had a deep appreciation for jazz music and enjoyed listening to it whenever he had the opportunity.
Bernard’s love for God was evident in the way he lived and served others. Whether through his work, his church, or his service to his community, he consistently found ways to make a difference in the lives of others. His kindness, generosity, humor, and willingness to help will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Though Bernard will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing that his earthly journey has come to an end and his eternal journey with his Lord and Savior has begun. His faith has become sight, and his service here on earth is complete. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, love, compassion, and service that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.” — Psalm 116:15
