PORTER- Jeffrey Paul “JP” Sterling, 27, passed away unexpectedly on September 18, 2026, just one day before he was set to marry the love of his life, Brianna Horton.
JP had a genuine, unbridled love for life and for everyone lucky enough to know him. He was the kind of person who would truly give the shirt off his back to help a friend or a stranger. Though he faced a difficult epilepsy diagnosis, he met every challenge with courage, never letting it dim his spirit, and remained a constant light to those he loved. In his 27 years, JP lived deeply, authentically, and truly “life wide open.” He was happiest when he was outdoors - whether he was out fishing, going Jeeping, or spending hours in the garage working on project cars with his friends or his father.
A dedicated and longtime employee of Mellen and Son Disposal, JP was cherished not only by his coworkers, but by the entire community he served on his regular routes. He had a gift for connecting with people, and his warm presence made him a beloved fixture around town. One of his greatest joys was participating in the local parade, where you could always spot him smiling and waving to the children from the back of the trash truck, spreading warmth and happiness wherever he went.
Above all, JP was devoted to his family. He loved his parents and sisters deeply and adored his niece and nephews, being the Funcle was one of his favorite roles. He was so excited for the future and the prospect of becoming a father.
He is predeceased by his paternal grandfather, George Sterling, and his uncle, Scott Todd.
JP is survived by his beloved parents, Paulette and Jeffrey Sterling; his fiancée and the love of his life since their high school days, Brianna Horton, along with their cherished fur babies, Lily, Bean, Rydyr, and Mama Kitty; his two sisters, Brittany Villineau and her husband, Ryan, and Julie Sterling and her partner, Matthew Humphrey; and his precious niece and nephews, Jacob and Logan Villineau, and Addison Humphrey, all of whom brought Uncle Jips endless love and happiness.
JP loved his life and the people in it completely, and he leaves behind a legacy of generosity, kindness, and laughter. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of life is set to be announced at a later date.
