Marlene Joyce Hatcher

Marlene (Marty) Joyce Hatcher (Timmer) cherished Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend passed away August 25, 2026 at her home in Marshfield, Massachusetts surrounded by her loving family. She will be remembered for the love she gave so generously, the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her, the beautiful memories she created throughout her life and the way she carried herself with poise and class.
Marty grew up in Pease, Minnesota, a small Dutch farming community where family, faith and a strong work ethic were the cornerstones of everyday life. Those early years deeply shaped the caring and devoted woman she became.
Curious about the world, independent and fearless, she left Pease at 18, drove to Texas with a friend and began her journey. She lived in Michigan, California, Massachusetts, North Carolina and New Orleans. She loved to drive and took many solo trips throughout the years home to Minnesota and to visit her daughter in Texas. Marty especially loved Christmas and had an eye for beauty, holding a lifelong appreciation for art, architecture, decorating, painting, and gardening. She designed, built or rebuilt all of the homes she and/or her family ever lived in, with a special love for the Historic home in Easton where she and her late husband raised their children. Her homes were often filled with the sounds of classical music, though she had a special, joyful appreciation for the Blues, Prince and Elvis. She loved playing Singo with her friends, and a Southern Comfort Manhattan, crafted precisely with dry vermouth and a cherry. Throughout her professional life, Marty worked as a bookkeeper-- a career that reflected her dependability, sharp attention to detail, and tireless work ethic.
Marty’s family was her greatest pride and her lasting legacy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Hatcher; her parents, Jennie Timmer (Mooi) and John Timmer; her sister, Carol Kiel (Timmer); and her brother, Delroy Timmer.
She is survived by her devoted children: Douglas (Eileen) Hatcher of Marshfield, MA; Steven (Tamara) Hatcher of Concord, NH; Kelly (Andrew) Bruneau of Houston, TX; her brother, Jere (Linda) Timmer; her brother-in-law, Don Kiel; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins and friends.
Marty is lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Renae (T.J.) Powers (Kasey & Clara); Ryan Hatcher; Riley Hatcher; Ashley (Jared) Hatcher; Hayden (Samantha) Hatcher (Violet); and Faith Hatcher. Her grandchildren brought her tremendous joy and she cherished the time and memories they shared together.
Marty/Mom/Grandma will be deeply missed, but she will never be forgotten. She will live on in the stories her family and friends tell, the memories they hold dear, and most importantly, in the love she placed in their hearts.
A celebration of Marty’s life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, located at 1981 Ocean Street, Marshfield, MA 02050
