WHISPERING PINES, NC – Mary A. “Cookie” (Lucero) Bazinet, 96, of Whispering Pines, North Carolina and a former longtime resident of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. She passed into Eternal Life at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in San Diego, CA on October 23, 1929, a beloved daughter of the late Ernesto and Consuelo (Martinez) Lucero. She was raised in Chula Vista, CA and graduated in 1947 from Sweetwater High School in National City, CA. Following her marriage to her beloved late husband, Roland, she moved to Chicopee in 1949, where they resided together until the time of his passing in 2013. She moved to Whispering Pines in January of 2024 where she lived with her son, Michael until the time of her passing. Active in her Catholic faith, Mary was a longtime communicant of Saint Anne Church in Fairview where she was a member and Past President of the Saint Anne Sodality Guild and served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister for over 20 years and was longtime volunteer for many events. She also was a longtime volunteer at the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus in Chicopee, the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, and Baystate Medical Center Wesson Maternity in Nursery D in Springfield where she lovingly cared for many newborn babies. Above all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family where she shared her love to cook authentic Mexican cuisine with all who were privileged to share. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, Roland L. Bazinet, Jr. who was Called Home on June 25, 2013. They were married on February 26, 1949 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Otay, CA and were blessed with over 64 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving and devoted children, Mark S. Bazinet and his wife, Kimberly, of Vancouver, WA; Joanne M. Marshall of Ludlow, and Michael N. Bazinet and his wife, Susan, of Whispering Pines, NC, with whom she lived; her three cherished granddaughters, Jordan Parnicky and her husband, Alex; and Grace and Elizabeth Bazinet; her two cherished great grandsons, Brayden and Ashton Parnicky; her dear brother, David Lucero of Chula Vista, CA; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving grandson, Aaron Van Marshall who was Called Home on October 27, 2015; her beloved son-in-law, Van Marshall who was Called Home on November 8, 2023; her three dear brothers, Andrew, John, and Ernest Lucero; her dear sister, Lucita Soderstrom. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Monday, September 14, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
