Obituary

QUINEBAUG, CT – Ellen (McSweeney) Corrado, 74, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, MA after an illness.

A dedicated homemaker, former member of the Thompson Board of Education and Thompson Democratic Committee, Ellen committed her life to putting others before herself. She was born on September 12, 1951 in Hartford, CT. Ellen was raised in Quinebaug, the daughter of Vincent J. and Bridie (Fitzgibbons) McSweeney and was a 1969 graduate of Tourtellotte Memorial High School. She attended Worcester State University in Worcester, MA.

One of Ellen’s greatest gifts was her ability to empathize with anyone who was in need, always caring and advocating for family and friends who were ill or simply required a hand to hold or an ear to listen. Of all the titles Ellen held in her life, “Mom” brought her the greatest joy, rivaled only by the cherished title of “Grammy.” Her compassion and unwavering love touched everyone who knew her. She is deeply missed.

Ellen is survived by her husband of 39 years, William F. “Bill” Corrado; a son, Daniel W. Corrado and his wife Megan of Pomfret; a daughter, Sarah S. Corrado of Quinebaug; two grandsons, William and Henry Corrado; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Lieutenant Colonel Vincent E. “Vin” McSweeney (Ret.) in 2025.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, MA. Donations in her memory may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
