
Donald W. France, Sr., 92, of Westport, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Center. He was the husband of Ruth M. France, they shared 70 years of marriage.
Mr. France was born in Fall River, son of the late Henry E. France, Sr. and the late Gladys M. (Chesworth) France and had resided in Westport since 1962. He was a Durfee High School graduate, Class of 1952. He received his BS from Durfee Tech in mechanical engineering and went on to get his Master's in Business Administration from the former SMU. He worked as a civilian engineer for the U.S. Navy later joining Montaup Electric Co., Somerset where he retired as plant manager.
He was a founding member of the Westport United Congregational Church. He was Past Master of the Noquochoke Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Westport and Secretary of Abraham H. Howland, Jr. Lodge, A.F. & A.M of New Bedford.
He was an avid collector and enjoyed antique cars and tractors. He loved the ocean and boating, whether on or beside it.
His greatest accomplishment was providing unending, selfless support and knowledge of lessons he taught his family. His love of family will be the legacy he leaves behind.
Survivors along with his wife include his 2 sons: Donald W. France, Jr. and his wife Liz of Warren, RI and Andrew J. France of Westport; his daughter: Laurie J. Rosinha of Adamsville, RI; 4 grandchildren: Briannah Rosinha and her fiancé Dan Moniz, Jameson France and his wife Riannha, Allyson Rosinha and her fiancé Jonathan Schings, Cody France and his companion Emily Caddick; and a great grandchild: Ryan Moniz.
He was the brother of the late Henry E. France, Jr.
