In Loving Memory of Larry G. Smelser
December 22, 1946 – August 29, 2026
Larry Smelser, 79, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away on August 29th, 2026. Born on December 22, 1946, he was the son of the late Weldon and Virginia (Ritz) Smelser.
A proud graduate of Madison Heights High School (Class of 1965), he went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy stationed in Yokosuka, Japan aboard the USS St. Francis River (LSMR/LFR). His commitment to his fellow veterans remained a lifelong priority. He was an active member of American Legion Post #408 and a Life Member of AMVETS Post #692. Following his military service, he dedicated 31 years of hard work to the "Phone Company" (Indiana Bell/Ameritech/SBC/AT&T) before retiring.
Known to all as an avid gardener, golfer, bowler, and quick-witted jokester, his warmth and humor endeared him to everyone he met.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Kay Smelser; his sister, Carol Hendry; his son, Kelly Smelser; his step-children, Tim Bucci and Cathy Murphy; and a large, beloved circle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 25th at the American Legion Post #446 in Daleville from 4-7 PM.
