Obituary

CHICOPEE – Richard G. Methot, 92, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center on August 20th, 2026. Richard was born in Holyoke, MA on August 22nd, 1934, a beloved son of the late George and Cora (Capistrant) Methot. He was raised in South Hadley Falls and graduated from Holyoke Trade High School. Following graduation, he served his country in the United States Army. After his military service, he bought a home on College Street in Fairview, Chicopee, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He was the proud owner of the former R. G. Methot Landscaping Company, as well as the caretaker to many local cemeteries. He was also employed at Kaman Aircraft Corporation in Bloomfield, CT. He was a member of the American Legion Post 260 in South Hadley. Richard loved listening to big band music, was formerly an avid drummer, and enjoyed spending time with his family and the many good friends he was gifted at making. He was a lover of dogs, and was predeceased by his four legged friend of 21 years, Charlie Brown, and more recently, Gus. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Litty) Methot, who was called home on July 27th, 1992. He leaves behind his three loving and devoted children, Edward R. Methot of Highland CA, Lori-Jo Rodgers of San Dimas, CA, and Samantha A. Methot and her husband, Scott Curran, of Holyoke, MA; his eight cherished grandchildren, Amanda Kelley of San Bernardino, CA, Jesse Methot of San Diego, CA, Daniel Methot of Michigan, Patrick Methot of Oregon, Adam Woldenga of Lake Elsinore, CA, Bethany Lopez of Long Beach, CA, and Eliza and Teagan Curran of Holyoke, MA. He also leaves behind his longtime friend, Chris Menard of Chicopee, who was his partner-in-crime in his later years. Richard leaves behind his beloved nieces, cousins, great nieces, great nephew, and extended family, as well as many dear friends he made over the years. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his beloved son, Michael R. Methot who was called home on February 24th, 2021; his dear son-in-law, Paul Rodgers; his dear brother, Donald Methot and his wife, Boyne “Bunnie” Methot; and his dear sister, Gloria “Gooey” Methot. His family will receive friends on Thursday, September 3rd, 2026 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Funeral Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear. His funeral will be held on Friday, September 4th, 2026 beginning at 9 a.m. with a Prayer Service at 10 a.m. at the Funeral Home. His Burial with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Prayer Service at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075.
