Seth Paul Hicks, son of Judith A. Hicks of Mystic and the late James M. Hicks, died peacefully on Monday, September 25th, 2006 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital of liver disease after his long battle with alcoholism.
He was born in Westerly, RI on February 9, 1970. He attended Mystic schools and graduated from Fitch Sr. H.S. in 1988 and attended University of Connecticut at Storrs and Three Rivers College. His interests in nature, fishing, and flying gave him many happy times from Alaska to Maine. He was known for his sense of humor, kindness, and politeness.
He had been employed in site maintenance at Millstone for 5 years and at Columbia Air at Groton/New London Airport for 6 years as a lineman and assistant manager of fuel supply. It was there that he was able to fulfill his passion for airplanes and flying.
Besides his mother, he leaves a sister, Melissa Messina and her husband Jeffrey of Mystic; his brother David and his wife Dorothy of Morris Plains, NJ; as well as his nephews James and Gabe Messina and Andrew Hicks, and nieces Kathryn and Lauren Hicks. In addition, he leaves many friends. The family is very appreciative of the competent and compassionate care throughout his stay at Lawrence & Memorial.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Mystic Congregational Church, East Main Street, Mystic on Saturday at 1pm with the Rev. Patricia Liberty, officiating. There are no visiting hours. Private burial will precede in the family plot at Elm Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Seth asked that donations in his memory be made to the James M. Hicks Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o David M. Hicks, 45 Northview Drive, Morris Plains, NJ 07950, for a scholarship at Fitch High School which was established at the time of his father’s death.
