Margaret P. Hagerty, 81, of Derry, NH, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at her home with her family by her side. Margaret was born on December 6, 1944, in Cambridge, MA, and was a daughter of the late Fred and Anna (McFarland) Smith.
Margaret worked for many years as a candy decorator for Johnson’s Candy Factory in Somerville, MA, and later as a cake decorator at Hoff’s Bakery in Medford, MA. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and spending time with her great grandchildren .
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Debra A. Masucci and her partner John Riley of Derry, and Kim M. McHale and her fiancé Albert R. Hilton of Manchester, NH; a son, John D. McHale and his wife Kimberley J. of Orange, MA; six grandchildren, Jenna, Michael, Samantha, Sean, Amber, and Nicholas; three great-grandchildren, Kash, Ryder, and Carsen; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Daniel J. Hagerty, in 2021, her granddaughter, Kelsey Donahue, and her eight brothers and sisters.
Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at the Peabody Funeral Home, 15 Birch Street, Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Foundation, 6405 Metcalf Avenue, Suite 214, Overland Park, KS 66202.
