Steven Charles Phillips (Steve), 72, of Ventura, CA, passed away peacefully on 8/19/2026 in Ventura, CA at his home. Steve was born in Long Beach, CA to John and Jeannette Phillips on 8/12/1954. He went to High School at Long Beach Millikan and graduated in 1972. He went on the earn an Associates degree from Long Beach City College, Bachelors degree from Long Beach State University, and a Juris Doctor degree from Western State Law School. Steven started with the Ventura County District Attorney's Office in1986 where he was a. Sr. Deputy District Attorney until his retirement in 2016. He enjoyed many hobbies including bonsais, stamp collecting, rocks and gems, shooting, USC football, sports, cooking, and most of all spending time with his family. He was involved in the Rose Valley Gun Club, Stamp Club, and Bonsai Clubs.
Steve is survived by his wife Shannon Phillips, sons Brett and Trent Phillips, daughter-in-laws Jenna and Dasha Phillips, granddaughters Addie, Mae, and Dahlia Phillips all of Ventura, and his brother Ken (Kris) Phillips of Sequim, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Jeannette Phillips.
Dad, to the hero and role model from day one. The lessons you imparted on your family will carry on for generations. You taught us kindness, compassion, integrity, how to treat a lady, hard work, curiosity of the world, and most importantly, how to be a good father to our own children. Thank you for always being there for us growing up and into adulthood. We will always miss you dad, but know that you gave us the tools to carry the torch forward and impart the lessons we learned from you to the next generation. We love you.
A private ceremony will be held at Ivy Lawn Cemetery on 9/4/2026 officiated by Ted Chun.
