Obituary

Marguerite Maria Gill was born in Boston on April 19, 1940. She was the daughter of Thomas J. Gill Jr. and Marguerite (Capobianco) Gill, both of whom were tellers at local banks. She grew up in Medford, MA and graduated from St. Clement’s high school. She went on to earn her B.A. at Vassar College in 1961 – studying Italian, music and mathematics. She was a gifted singer and a member of the Vassar choir and Glee Club.

After graduating Vassar, “Margo” moved to New York City – away from her family to pave her own way. As had both of her parents, Margo went into banking. At a time when women were not accepted in finance, she climbed the ranks to become a senior executive at an early incarnation of JPMorganChase. She was instrumental in building and growing that bank’s international market strategy. She was a tough, brilliant negotiator and was widely respected in her field.

Margo spent time between her apartment in New York and a small cottage she adored in the hills of western Massachusetts. The tastefully crafted interior décor of the country house was testament to her artistic talent. She enjoyed remaining close with many of her Vassar friends and banking colleagues, often gathering for dinners together or enjoying the arts in New York City – particularly the opera and ballet. A series of health issues caught up with her in October 2025. She passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026.

Her beloved niece Elizabeth (Gill) Kukulowicz had been the light of her life, prior to Elizabeth’s death in 2020. She is survived by Elizabeth’s husband Shayne and two adoring Kukulowicz children, Caitlyn and Ryan, of Toronto, Ontario. In Massachusetts, she is dearly remembered by her brother, Dr. Thomas J. Gill III of Duxbury; her cousin, Paul B. Gill Jr. of Carlisle; and her nephew, Dr. Thomas J. Gill IV and his children “Ty”, Olivia and Becca, all of Weston. She is also lovingly remembered by her extended family in New York, the Tatlocks: Anne, her close friend for over sixty years, and children Kerry, Christopher, and Margo’s goddaughter Julina.

A funeral service for Marguerite will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 2 to 2:30 PM at the Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Rd, Medford. (Please meet at the cemeteries main gate.)
