Obituary

Armand Fontaine, 67, of Tewksbury, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Lowell General Hospital, with his loving son by his side. He was born on November 3, 1958, in Lowell, to the late Donald R. Fontaine and the late Gertrude G. (Proulx) Fontaine. He was raised and educated in Lowell and went on to attend technical school, where he earned his certificate in aviation mechanics.

Armand dedicated more than 30 years to the aviation industry as an aviation mechanic, primarily working for United Airlines. He took great pride in his work and remained with the company until his retirement in 2020.

He shared 26 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Barbara Ellen (Fagan) Fontaine, until her passing in 2017. Following their marriage, Armand and Barbara moved to Tewksbury in 1991, where they began their family and built their home together.

A devoted family man, he was always there to support the people he loved and anyone who came into his life. He had a serious demeanor, but those who knew him well also knew his wonderful sense of humor and kind heart. He enjoyed following his favorite Boston sports teams, especially the Bruins, Red Sox, and Patriots. A sports enthusiast throughout his life, Armand played hockey growing up and remained an avid fan of the game. He also enjoyed fishing, particularly spending time out on the ocean, and had an appreciation for bird watching, enjoying the opportunity to observe the different birds he encountered.

Armand leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by his family and friends. His quiet strength, kindness, humor, and unwavering support for those he loved will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Brian D. Fontaine and his wife, Samantha Olsen Fontaine, of Fairhaven, and Meghan S. Anderson and her husband, Keith, of Blackstone; and his cherished grandchildren, Declan and Jonathan.

He is also survived by his siblings, Jeannine Dufour and her husband, Bob, Michelle LaRose and her husband, Bob, Suzanne Maio, and Annette Michaud and her husband, Ron; his brothers-in-law, Douglas Fagan and his wife, Joanne, and John “Jack” Fagan; and his sister-in-law, Donna Fontaine.

He was the brother of the late Richard Fontaine.
