Jonathan “Welchie” Welch
May 26, 1982 – August 20, 2026
It is with profound and deep sorrow that we share the passing of Jonathan Welch, age 44. He was called home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2026, following a tragic motor vehicle accident. Though his life was cut far too short, his family takes comfort in knowing that Jonathan is at peace.
Born on May 26, 1982, to William and Karen Welch (Salley), Jonathan was the third of five children and the proud Irish twin of his sister, Christina.
Jonathan began his career in landscaping and hardscapes, working with several companies over the years, most recently with Smith Enterprises. He was very good at this work and truly enjoyed doing it. He was most recently employed with Local 1421 Laborers Union, a job he was proud of. Jonathan earned his OSHA 30 certification, asbestos abatement license, and equipment operator's license. Accomplishments he was very proud of.
Above all of life's accomplishments, Jonathan's greatest joy and deepest devotion was to his beautiful daughter, Ella. She was his greatest love, his deepest passion, and the center of his world. He was an incredibly loving and devoted father, and his legacy of love will live on forever through her. Of all the things Jonathan enjoyed, his favorite moments were often the simplest ones, time spent with Ella, especially their breakfasts dates together. Being her dad was the role he treasured most.
Jonathan was a remarkably special human being who left an unforgettable mark on the world. To know him was to know a man who loved BIG! He had many nicknames Welchie, Super Jon, Jonboy, and Knockboots (just to name a few) and just as many friends. He had a rare gift for making everyone feel like a best friend and part of the family. He gave so much of himself to those around him and would do anything for a friend, a family member, or simply to put a smile on someone's face.
The Welch family is incredibly close, and Jonathan's immense presence and vibrant spirit will be missed every single day. He had a tremendous circle of friends because friendship meant something to him. If you were one of Jonathan's people, you knew it. And, well, if you weren't you knew that too.
Jonathan was a true townie, and seemingly everyone knew him. He frequented Alberto's, Goat City Pub, Emma's, and Hillside Johnny's, where he even had a pizza named after him and put it on the menu. There were multiple stops daily at “Cumbies”, Sunday Fundays at Langton's watching football at Billotte's or Camping/ Saco trips up north with the Smiths. He loved showing up for his nieces' and nephews' sporting events! Shouting their names and embarrassing them for a good laugh given in return, and being part of the lives of the people around him.
Jonathan loved being outdoors. Fishing, kayaking, riding ATVs, grilling, camping, and playing yard games were all part of who he was. He loved old cars and getting up north whenever he could where you would find him on the snow tube trails with Ella and friends. Some of his best times were spent floating down the Saco River, camping, and sitting around a campfire and yes, he would actually sit still for that!
Music was another constant in his life. His taste covered just about everything, from Metallica to Zach Bryan, although country music always held a special place in his heart. He loved going to concerts, watching football, wearing his jerseys, shirts that would make you laugh or offend you, and was a proud American.
Jonathan didn't need anything elaborate to have a good time. Give him his daughter, his family, good friends, music, a grill, a football game, a river, or a campfire, and he was exactly where he wanted to be. A simple man at heart.
Jonathan leaves behind his beloved daughter, Ella; his parents, William and Karen; his brother, William (Naomi), along with their children, Harvey and Ivy; his sister, Christina (Christopher), along with their daughter, Camrynn, whom he lovingly called "Cammy Cam Jam"; his sister, Rebecca (Michael), along with their children, Sydney, Lyla, Dylan, and Ryker; and his sister, Elizabeth (Raul), along with their children, Levi, Emilia, and Elliana.
Jonathan also leaves behind his aunts, uncles, cousins, countless extended family members, and a brotherhood of dearest friends who were truly his family.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Louise (Owen) and George Ancher ("Grandma & George"), and Charles and Mildred (Marshall) Salley ("Grampy and Nana"); his uncle Radford his Aunty Dawne; his uncle Larry; and his cousins Matthew Welch and Chessa Mackenzie, who now welcome him home.

Whatever name you knew him by, you knew there was only one Jonathan Welch.
The family wishes to express their deepest and most sincere gratitude for the unbelievable outpouring of love, prayers, texts, meals, and support provided by the community during this unbearable time. Your kindness has been a true blessing and a light in our darkest time.
Jonathan is deeply loved, profoundly missed, and will never be forgotten.

Wake: Friday August 28, 2026 5-9 PM at Norton Memorial Funeral Home located at 19 Clapp Street Norton, MA 02766. Please feel free to join his family in wearing Patriots or Red Sox jersey, Blue, American themed, or funny/ inappropriate shirt for the wake.
Funeral service: Saturday August 29, 2026, 2:30 PM at Waters Church located at 57 John L Dietsch Square North Attleboro, MA 02760
Burial: Norton Common Cemetery located at 200 West Main St Norton, MA 02766.
