Obituary

Jeannine M. Laplante, 88, of Derry, New Hampshire, passed away on August 13, 2026, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 22, 1938, in Van Buren, Maine, a daughter of the late John and Yvonne Cyr. She has been a resident of Derry since 1969.

Jeannine Cyr married Clement Laplante in 1954 and soon welcomed the first of what would eventually be ten children -- the more the merrier on a potato farm in northern Maine! The family moved south to Derry in 1969 and Jeannine was glad to be able to visit her parents in nearby Methuen, Massachusetts. She especially loved playing Scrabble with her mother and, later on, with her own kids, grandchildren and even a few great grandchildren. She took a job as a “lunch lady” at Pinkerton Academy and also at St Thomas Aquinas School to be closer to her grandchildren, who got a real kick out of being served “American Chop Suey” and other dishes by their Mémère.

She was always glad to lend a hand, including helping to raise some of her own grandkids, as her kids were having kids of their own. She will be greatly missed by everyone she knew and loved, and who loved her back. Our consolation is that she has rejoined her loving husband in the next life, after a long and fruitful life in this world.

Jeannine is survived by seven children: Lucille Laplante (Roy Rich) of Phoenix, AZ; Joan Laplante (James Larkin) of Danbury, NH; Philip Laplante of Hooksett, NH; Guy Laplante (Karen) of Atkinson, NH; Edward Laplante of Derry, NH; Louise Laplante (Dave Shea) of Milton, NH; and Robert Laplante (Maho) of Tokyo, Japan; one sister: Shirley Cyr of Methuen, MA; 14 grandchildren: Tanya, Nola, Nicole, Benjamin, Joshua, Michael, Danielle, Matthew, Abraham, Cyrus, Clay, Ruby, Marlene, and Sophie; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Jeannine was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Clement J. Laplante in 2019; a son, Donald Laplante; two daughters, Elaine Laplante and Janet Kisielewski; two grandsons, Nicholas and Cody; and one great-granddaughter, Makiah.
