Dr. Richard K. Fields, born April 8, 1944, peacefully departed this life on August 5, 2026. A man of wisdom, integrity, and quiet strength, he leaves behind a legacy of service, education, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Dr. Fields was preceded in death by his mother, Julia; father, Henry; sisters, Doreatha and Hattie Mae; and his brother, Sylvester. He is survived by his sister, Anna Fields; his loving son and daughter-in-law Michael and Bianca Fields; his cherished daughter, Shawna Fields; and his adored grandchildren, Mya, Amare, Zion, and Ayomi, all of whom were the pride and joy of his life. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members, dear friends, and loved ones who will continue to cherish his memory.
A lifelong advocate for education, Dr. Fields made meaningful and lasting contributions to the academic community. His passion for learning and mentorship touched the lives of countless students and colleagues, leaving an enduring mark that will continue to inspire future generations.
He was also a proud and honored member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., where he exemplified the organization’s values of brotherhood, scholarship, and service. His commitment to uplifting others extended far beyond his professional life, as he was known for his kindness, guidance, and generosity of spirit.
Dr. Fields will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. His legacy of compassion, excellence, and faith will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
