Mr. Peter R. Beaven, a lifelong resident of Andover, passed away accidentally on Friday afternoon, August 7, 2026. He was 82 years old.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on May 26, 1944, Peter was the beloved son of the late Raymond G. and Beatrice (Hoar) Beaven. Peter graduated from Bowdoin college B.A. cum laude, Exeter College, Oxford, U.K. studies in English, and University of New Hampshire M.P.A. Peter was an Educator and the proprietor of Beaven & Associates in Andover, a company that for 50 years specialized in helping students to advance their academic careers. He guided thousands of students towards some of the most prestigious colleges in the U.S. He authored 17 books on English vocabulary, structure, and usage still in print today. His true legacy lives in the lives he touched, the minds he challenged, and the confidence he inspired in those fortunate to learn from him.
In his spare time, Peter enjoyed traveling to Europe and Spain. He enjoyed learning languages and was multilingual. Peter loved to body surf at Ogunquit Beach, Maine and was an avid reader. He was a supporter of and advocate of homeopathy.
He will be dearly missed.
Peter is survived by his loving sisters; Jane Vanzandt of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Betsey Beaven of Andover and cousins; John Stroebel and wife Shirley, North Andover, MA, David Roberts and wife Carol, Glen N.H., Nancy Roberts-McKenna and husband Jack, Haverhill, MA, Shirley Murray and husband Larry, Groveland, MA, and Ernest Roberts and wife Paula, Ipswich, MA.
Calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 3:00 PM -6:00 PM. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held from 5:00PM-5:30 PM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Funeral service and interment will be held privately.
