Ronald Avilla, 87, of Westport, peacefully passed away at home on Sunday, August 9, 2026. He was the husband of Michealeen (Albanese) Avilla.
Mr. Avilla was born in Fall River, son of the late Antone and Evelyn (Swass) Avilla and had resided in Westport for over 50 years. Prior to retirement, he worked as superintendent for the Fall River Housing Authority.
He will always be remembered by those who loved his as "The Governor," a name that captured the warmth and personality that made him so special. He found great joy on the golf course where he enjoyed not only the game itself but the friendships and memories made along the way. A lifelong New York Yankees fan, he took great pride in cheering for his team and sharing his love for sports with those around him. He was especially proud of his own athletic accomplishments and the dedication, determination and sportsmanship that accompanied them.
Survivors along with his wife include his 3 children: Sharon Duclos and her husband John of Westport, Ronald Avilla and his wife Becca of Westport and Paul Avilla of Westport; 2 brothers: Edward Avilla and his wife Irene of Fall River and Paul Avilla of Fall River; sister-in-law: Elaine Avilla of Fall River; 8 grandchildren: Jillian Martin and her husband Jacob, Joshua Duclos-Rickard and his husband Nathan, Nicholas Avilla and his wife Alissa, Kyle Avilla, Madison Avilla, Richard Avilla, Ryan Avilla and Royce Avilla; 2 great grandchildren: Luna and Quinn Martin; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Antone Avilla and brother-in-law of the late Terry Avilla.
Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, August 14, 2026 at Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Thursday from 5-7 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
