In Loving Memory of Varghese Peter Kunnath
Varghese Peter Kunnath, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed into eternity at the age of 78 on August 8, 2026 in Boston, MA. Born in Kothamangalam, Kerala, India in 1948, he was the cherished eldest son and second oldest of 8 children of Mr. Kunnath Varkey Pathrose and Mrs. Mariamma Peter Kunnath both of blessed memory.
With a strong faith in God, family was always an important part of his life, and he deeply valued the bonds he shared with his loved ones. In 1978, Varghese married his beloved wife, Mary, beginning a lifelong godly journey together. In 1979, he joined her in the United States, where they began a new chapter of their lives together, building a loving home and a family filled with cherished memories. In 1984, they were blessed with their son, George. Varghese was also a loving father-in-law to Bincy and a devoted grandfather to his beloved grandson, Jordan, with whom he treasured spending time.
Before moving to the United States, he worked in Kerala where he designed and led the construction of numerous buildings and tunnels throughout Kerala. His knowledge, creativity, attention to detail, and dedication played an important role in bringing many of these projects from design to completion. He took great pride in creating structures that would serve families and communities for generations to come for the glory of God.
In the United States, he worked at Omni Spectra and later over three decades at Raytheon, where he served as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. He was known for his intelligence, dedication, strong work ethic, and ability to solve complex problems.
He had a strong and unwavering faith in God. His faith was an important foundation throughout his life, guiding him in the way he humbly lived and treated others. He was truly selfless in sacrificing his time, genuine effort and money to help many in need and the less fortunate. He loved the Church and served it with great dedication, giving his time, energy, and devotion to his church community. His faith was not simply something he only claimed, but something he carried with him in his daily life and in his relationships with family, friends, and those around him.
He had many interests that brought him joy. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching soccer, football, and basketball and also enjoyed watching popular 1980’s American sitcoms and Malayalam movies. He also enjoyed listening to Indian classical music especially when taking long road trips with family. He also enjoyed following the news and current events, always taking an interest in what was happening in the world around him.
Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He cherished gatherings, conversations, celebrations, Church, and the simple moments shared with the people closest to him. His warmth, generosity, wisdom, and genuine care for others will be deeply missed.
Varghese leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary Kunnath, his son, George Kunnath, his daughter-in-law, Bincy Kunnath, his grandson, Jordan Kunnath, his siblings Thankamma Peter, Chinnamma Skaria, Susy Peter, Sunny Peter, and Jain K. Peter in Kerala, India, Elsy Peter Kunnath and Jancy (Sally) Kuriakose in the U.S., brother in laws, sister in laws, numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, extended family and many dear friends including his church community.
Though his physical absence leaves a profound emptiness in the lives of those who loved him, his memory and spirit will continue to live on through his family, his faith, the people he touched, the structures and innovations he helped create, and the many memories he made throughout his life.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. May his strong faith in God and his life of love, humility and selfless service be remembered as a lasting genuine example to all who knew him. May he rise with Christ in the hope of the resurrection and eternal life.
