GERALD ALAN HURTY, 88, of VENTURA, CALIFORNIA, passed away on July 31, 2026, at
COMMUNITY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL in VENTURA, CALIFORNIA. GERRY was born in BURBANK,
CALIFORNIA, to WALTER C. HURTY and ERMA C. HURTY on FEBRUARY 25, 1938, the youngest of
their three children. He graduated from NORTH HOLLYWOOD HIGH SCHOOL in NORTH
HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA. He was married to his late wife, DAYLE M. HURTY for 65 years and
together they raised four children in NORTHRIDGE, CALIFORNIA. They met as undergraduates
at UCLA where Gerry received a BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE IN MARKETING. While at UCLA,
Gerry especially enjoyed his role in the SIGMA ALPHA EPSILON FRATERNITY, performing in the
Spring Sing at the Hollywood Bowl. He later received a MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
DEGREE from UCLA and spent the early years of his career as a consultant with PLANNING
RESEARCH and PEAT MARWICK. He was particularly proud of serving on the State of
California’s Major Appointments Task Force for Governor Ronald Reagan in 1967. After this,
Gerry had a long career with NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL LIFE where he established many
meaningful relationships and faithfully served his clients for over 50 years, until the day of his
death. Gerry was also deeply invested in his local community, serving as a board member for
the CRISIS PREGNANCY CENTER in Ventura.
GERRY is survived by his CHILDREN: CRAIG W. HURTY, COLEEN H. LORENZ, CHRISTA ROSE
BARRON and CHERICE E. KELSO; his GRANDCHILDREN: JENNA HURTY PERSON, WESLEY W.
HURTY, CALVIN C. HURTY, NICHOLE C. LORENZ, AMBER ROSE PIPA, NOELLE PIPA, KEAGAN P.
KELSO, ROSIE KELSO and VIOLET KELSO; and his GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: EMMA ROSE PERSON,
JACOB C. PERSON, and HAZEL BOND. He is preceded in death by his wife, DAYLE, his sister,
THERESA BROWN, and his brother, CARL HURTY. The family wishes to extend gratitude to the
community at AEGIS VENTURA where Gerry lived, to Gerry’s church family at COMMUNITY
BIBLE CHURCH, and to the medical professionals who attended to Gerry’s needs in the final two
weeks of his life. May God bless all of you.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at the chapel of the BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD
MORTUARY & CREMATION, 15 TELOMA DRIVE, VENTURA, CA 93003 on SATURDAY, OCTOBER
17, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Gerry’s dear friend, PASTOR DANNY SALANT of Calvary Monrovia, will
officiate.
