
Ronald H. Smith of Oxnard, California passed away on July 27, 2026. He was born in 1944 and grew up in Schenectady, NY and got his bachelors degree from the State University of New York at Albany. He joined federal civil service, serving in the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), which took him around the world aboard ships in the Survey’s fleet.
When the USC&GS was disbanded in 1970, Ron pursued and achieved his Masters Degree at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. Ron then returned to civil service in the Department of the Navy, soon landing in the Math Analysis Branch at Pt. Mugu, where he finished his civil service career as a Mathematician.
Ron loved dogs, bicycling and an occasional poker game. He also loved living near the beach where he could go for a walk, usually with his dog. On other occasions he took his kayak out on the ocean. His exercise routine included a weekly hike with friends that ended at McDonald’s for a senior coffee.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, August 17th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home & Cremation Service (757 E Main St, Ventura, CA 93001).
