Obituary

Frances (Schofield) Sweeney, 89, of New Bedford died September 23, 2006 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a period of declining health.
She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Sweeney.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Frank L. and Mildred (Sherman) Schofield, she lived in Dartmouth and New Bedford most of her life.
She was a charter member of W.I.M.S.A. Women in Military Service of America having served as a parachute rigger in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Sweeney of New Bedford; three sons, Thomas J. Sweeney, Jr., and his wife Annette, of Portsmouth, NH, James R. Sweeney, and his wife Muriel, of Norwell, MA and John E. Sweeney, and his wife Nancy, of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Veronica Washer, Melanie, John and Matthew Sweeney; a brother, Edward Schofield of Dartmouth; six great-grandchildren, Christopher and Arthur Washer, Collin, Maxwell and Emma Sweeney and Mikayla Frazier; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Paul P. Schofield.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 27th at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Her family will receive guests on Wednesday morning from 10 AM - 11 AM prior to her service.
