George Willis Jarrell passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, after an extended illness on August 7, 2026, at the age of 87. Born in Ben Hill County on January 23, 1939, to the late Barney Wilmer Jarrell and Thelma Young Jarrell.
He grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, attending school until the age of 16, when he moved back to Ben Hill County and attended Fitzgerald High School, graduating in 1957. As a boy growing up in Jacksonville, he was employed by the Jacksonville Times- Union as a delivery boy and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. While attending Fitzgerald High School, he participated in baseball, track and gymnastics.
He married Judy Dorminy at Sturgeon Creek Primitive Baptist Church on June 19, 1960. They recently celebrated 66 years of marriage. After their marriage, they made their home in Jacksonville, Florida where he was employed with Pops Bottling Company. He received his journeymen plumber's license while employed with Harry Goodman Plumbing.
Following the death of his father in law in 1965, he returned to Ben Hill County to tend the family farm. In the mid-1980’s he was also employed for several years with the Ray and Kenny Davis Farms.
Saved at the age of 33, he joined New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Adult Sunday School teacher for 24 years. In his later years, he attended Fitzgerald and Ocilla Church of God.
An avid trapper, he loved the challenge of trapping coyotes and beavers. He was an Honorary Member of the National Trappers Association for 40+ years and the Georgia Sheriff’s Association for more than 30 years. He was featured in the July 1992 issue of Georgia Sportsman Magazine in an article written by Georgia State Game Biologist Bill Cooper. He also worked briefly with the University Of Georgia, assisting in the study of coyotes in the state of Georgia. He was later featured in Ken Cook’s book Return to Wild Country.
Of all the accomplishments in his life his greatest joys were his family and being called Papa which brought him immense happiness as well as the great outdoors.
He is survived by his beloved wife Judy Jarrell; daughters Sandy (Scott) Revell and Becky (Chip) Wallace; his grandchildren Chuck (Becky) Louthan, Blake (Emily) Revell, Seth Wallace (fiancée Audrey Powell), Alex Wallace, Logan ( Austin) Daniels, Gabe Wallace; and his great- grandchildren Drew Louthan ( fiancée Shelby Griffin), Matthew Louthan, Anna Clare Louthan, and Amelia Cate Louthan. He also eagerly awaited the arrival of his great-granddaughter, Blakely Hope Revell, in September. He was preceded in death by a son Daniel Jarrell and a brother James Jarrell.
Graveside services will be held at Jacob Dorminy Cemetery August 9, 2026, at 4:00 PM. Caleb Hardeman and his oldest grandson, Chuck Louthan will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons Chuck Louthan, Blake Revell, Seth Wallace, Gabe Wallace, along with his great-grandsons Drew Louthan and Matthew Louthan.
