Francis “Bud” Gray
Francis “Bud” Gray, beloved husband, father, veteran, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.
Born January 28, 1948, Bud was raised in Arlington, Massachusetts. He met Jean Madden of Arlington in 1966, and they were married in 1968, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted more than five decades.
In 1969, Bud joined the United States Navy, serving six years. During his service, he was stationed in Chicago, Guam—where their son Ron was born—and Southern California. His time in the Navy reflected a lifelong commitment to service, dedication, and loyalty.
Following his military service, Bud earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Management from Fisher Junior. He went on to enjoy a successful career in technology, working with Data General, Filene’s, and Staples.
Bud and Jean returned to Arlington before settling in Stoneham, where they built their home and many lasting friendships. In retirement, they moved to Cape Cod, where they enjoyed many years of golf, time with friends and family, and coastal living. They also spent winters as snowbirds in Florida from January through March, creating many cherished memories. Bud especially enjoyed playing cards and golf, pastimes that brought him great joy and many friendships over the years.
Bud will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to his country, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life. His kindness, quiet strength, and steady presence will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Jean; his son, Ron, and daughter-in-law, Kathy, of Tewksbury; his beloved granddaughter, Alyssa; his brother, Mike Gray, of Arlington; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory forever.
Calling hours are Tuesday, August 11, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury, followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury. Services will conclude with interment at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury.
