PARSONSFIELD- Hugh was a man who worked with his hands. He spent his life building and fixing things, whether it was boats at the Portsmouth shipyard, cars in his own auto body business or teaching young people the craft at the high school. He knew how to make things work and he took pride in that. He was resourceful and a person who figured out solutions when others might have given up.
He loved being outdoors. He spent his time ATV riding, walking trails in the woods, checking his game camera,and puttering in the garden. In the Fall he would transform our home into what looked like a Cabela's sporting store. Come November you couldn't walk into the house without seeing his orange clothing. and hunting gear. It made him happy.
Hugh enlisted in the Army in 1967. He was awarded and recognized for his rifle proficiency at the expert level. He completed his military service in the Army Reserves, due to an injury and was discharged honorably in 1974.
Hugh was a Mason for 49yrs & His membership to the Masonic Lodge in Dover, NH was important to him. He was active and enjoyed the company of the fellow Masons. He was proud that his son's also became Mason's and hopeful this tradition would continue with his grandsons.
Hugh loved his grandchildren deeply. Hailey, Haden, Andrea, Cooper, and Jackson meant the world to him. He was their "Papa"; and that was sacred to him.
He was a good man. He worked hard, he loved well, and he left all of us with special memories.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday Aug. 8th at 11 AM at Woodland Cemetery, Hobbs Road, Effingham, NH.
