John R. Nigro II of Sandwich, formerly of Arlington and Woburn, passed away peacefully on February 19 at the age of 80, with family by his side.
Known to family and friends as “Jack,” he was a man of many talents with a lifelong love of art. In his later years, he became especially fond of classical music. Jack enjoyed working with his hands, and after graduating from Arlington Hill School, he attended culinary school. His interest in racing cars as a young adult ultimately led him to repairing them, beginning his career at Sears & Roebuck Service Center. Jack tried his hand at many things over the years and was working as an upholsterer when he retired.Jack reconnected with Betsy in 1973, and that was it for him. They married in 1975, forming a blended family and raising seven children together.
Jack is survived by the family he helped raise: Brenda (& Bill) Kolb of East Sandwich, Bonnie (& David) Olson of Canaan, VT, David (& Deanna) Slatton of Billerica, Sandra Zaniewski of Mashpee, Darlene (& Eric) Hopkins of Burlington; his daughter-in-law, Teresa Slatton of Punta Gorda, FL; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Glorianne & Robert Lowe of Lady Lake, FL; two nieces, Christine (& Jack) Paulik of FL and Andrea (& Vince) Strokus of NH, and their families; as well as many cousins.
Jack was predeceased by the love of his life, Beatrice “Betsy” (Meek) Nigro; his stepsons, John Slatton of Punta Gorda, FL, and Billy Slatton of Deering, NH; and his parents, John R. Nigro and Anna (Guidi) Nigro.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 8, at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 60 Forest Park Road, Woburn, MA. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow at noon, followed by a collation in the fellowship hall.
