
Samuel H. Powell, Jr., 78, of Marion Center, PA died Friday, July 31, 2026 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center in Indiana, PA.
The son of the late Samuel Howard and Mary Anna (Smith) Powell, Sr., he was born on June 18, 1948 in Montgomery Twp., Indiana Co., PA.
Sam wed Carol Frances (Huey) almost fifty years ago on August 7, 1976.
For over forty-six years, Sam worked as a coal miner in the deep coal mines.
Sam was a member of the former Schryock Grange #1359 in Bowdertown, PA. For many years, he served as President of the Thompson Cemetery.
He enjoyed being in the outdoors gardening, hunting and fishing. Most of all, Sam loved spending time with his family.
Sam is survived by his wife, Carol; his six children: Susan Reed and husband, Sam of Ohio; Dennis Powell of Indiana, PA; Terri Powell of OH; Mary Boyer and husband, Gary of Clymer, PA; Samuel Powell, III and wife, Heather of Commodore, PA and Jennifer Powell of Indiana, PA and his many grandkids and great grandkids.
Also surviving are his four siblings: Joyce White of Marion Center, PA; James Powell and wife, Bonny of TN; William Powell and wife, Wendy of Mineral Point, PA and Sharon Laney and husband, David of Marion Center, PA and brother-in-law, Bob Wagner of TN.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; his son, Wayne Powell; his twin sister, Sandra Lloyd; his sisters: Shirley Valentine and Patricia Wagner and his nephew, Brandon Powell.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA, where visitation will continue on Friday, August 7, 2026 from Noon until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service. Pastor Micah McMillen will officiate. Interment will be at the Thompson Cemetery in Hillsdale, PA.
