Roxana Avalos, also known as Rapper, Chanis and Roxy, peacefully passed away at the age of 41 in Ventura, California, on Saturday, July 18, 2026. On her final days on this Earth, she was surrounded by her loving parents, siblings, children, aunts and uncles, cousins and lifelong friends from all walks of life.
Roxy was born on Tuesday, May 7, 1985, in Santa Barbara, California, to Jose and Irma Avalos. She spent the majority of her childhood growing up in the small town of Carpinteria, in the Chapel Court Apartments, where she formed lifelong friendships and bonds that resisted the test of time. In 2000, her family moved into a beautiful home in Ventura, California. It would be her home for the remainder of her life.
Rox graduated from Carpinteria High School and went on to work in numerous settings, each introducing beautiful friendships that she would hold onto dearly throughout her life. She worked many years at the Salvation Army in Ventura, later scaling her professional career as a Sterile Processing Technician at Community Memorial Hospital and Los Robles Hospital. With immense pride and dignity, she ended her career as the Lead Sterile Processing Technician at Thousand Oaks Surgical Hospital where she met her best friend and formed even more community.
To know her was to truly love her. She carried a beautiful smile, a contagious laugh and wasted no time firing off jokes at those around her. She centered her time among friends and family, bringing those she held close to her heart together. She enjoyed various birthdays and gatherings centered around her mother’s famous comal, where she enjoyed Mexican delicacies like enchiladas and so much more. She participated in many road trips that led her to national parks, camping sites, weekend getaways and cities afar.
She is survived by her mother, Irma, and father, Jose; her siblings, Junior and Alva; her children, Gabriel and Daniel, as well as her lifelong friend and coparent, Desiree, and her partner, Antonio. She is also survived by numerous cousins, including Alex and Gabriela, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Annalee; her aunt, Rosalva,;and her grandmothers, Mama Pera and Irene.
A viewing will be held at 5:30 p.m., and a rosary at 7 p.m., on Friday, July 31, and a mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 at St. Joseph Church in Carpinteria, with the funeral to follow at Carpinteria Cemetery at 11 a.m. After the funeral there will be a reception at the Boys & Girls Club in Carpinteria. For Saturday, the emphasis is a celebration of life; the family asks that guests wear luau/Hawaiian-themed clothing (color encouraged); black attire is not allowed.
