Reginald J. Carruthers of Holliston, formerly of Montreal, Canada passed away on July 16, 2026, with his loved ones by his side.
Beloved father of Lorna Quayle of Natick and Keith Carruthers of Holliston. Devoted son of the late Bernard and Ruth (Lendrum) Carruthers. Dear brother of Bruce Carruthers and his wife Catherine of Newton. Loving grandfather of Ariana Subilosky and her fiancée Jessi Lewis of Swampscott, Devin Kiser and his partner Taylor Ellis of Natick. Great grandfather of Laylah Wixson, Jonathan Kiser-Ellis, and the late Axel Jonathan Ellis-Kiser. Adored uncle of John Carruthers and his wife Cindy of Wakefield, NH, Sandra Carruthers and her partner Michael Borelli of Newton. Also survived by many great nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Newton South High School, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1966. Upon completion of Basic Training, Reginald was selected to attend Officer Candidate School, where he achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. He completed his military service in 1968 with an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army.
That same year Reginald went on to pursue an education in Business where he earned an Associate Degree in Accounting. He worked as an Accountant for many years until he found his second career at Noremac Manufacturing Company in Westborough where he worked as a Comptroller. He worked there for over thirty years until his retirement in 2021.
Reggie had a passion for cars. He raced in demolition derby’s and went to stock car and NASCAR races. He would often tell stories about the Chevelle that he owned in his younger years.
He also had a love for sports. He attended many Red Sox and Boston Bruins games with his loved ones. Reggie never missed soccer, football, cheerleading, softball, or little league game that his children and grandchildren played in. You could see how much love he had for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren by the smile on his face when he saw them.
Reggie was an active member of the Holliston VFW, Leonard D. Chesmore Post # 8507, where he served as a Trustee. His love for his fellow veterans was unwavering, and it showed in his volunteer work at his Post. For many years he would serve food to senior citizens during the holidays and stand for hours on the side of the road selling poppies for veterans.
Reggie's humor was unmatched. He always enjoyed joking around. Everyone that knew him enjoyed listening to his stories from his time in the service and the “shenanigans” he would get up to with his lifelong friend from the Army, “Skip”.
He was loved and adored by all. He will be truly missed
A Service will be held on Wednesday, August 5th in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, 1 Connery Ave., Bourne, MA at 1:15pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
