James “Jimmy” Foster, age 87, of West Roxbury passed away on July 23, 2026. Beloved husband of the late Carole A. (Connaughton). Devoted father of Diane Carole Burke and her husband Thomas of VA, John W. Foster and his partner Chris Roddick of West Roxbury, the late James T., and Stephen Foster. Dear brother of the late Patricia McKinnon. Loving grandfather of TJ Burke of VA and Shannon Kemp of NY. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Jimmy and Carole raised their family in West Roxbury. Jimmy was a proud Navy veteran and a skilled welder by trade. He worked for General Dynamics at the Quincy Shipyard for many years before beginning a 28-year career with UPS. Throughout his working life, he was a proud member of the Pipefitters, Machinists, and Teamsters unions. After retiring, he enjoyed spending his winters in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he appreciated the beautiful weather.
Jimmy was devoted to his family and friends. His children and grandchildren were the center of his world. He was also very close to his nieces and nephews, who welcomed him into their homes for holidays and Sunday gatherings. Jimmy had a gift for making people feel good and always had a joke, a compliment, or a smile to share. Kind, dependable, and generous, he could always be counted on in times of need.
Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 4th at 9:00am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Theresa of Avila Church at 10:00am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. Visiting Hours Monday, August 3rd from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the Funeral Home.
