
Katharine A. Smith of Providence, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital.
Katharine dedicated many years of her life as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), where she found great purpose in caring for others. Her compassion, kindness, and selfless nature touched the lives of countless patients and families throughout her career.
Above all else, Katharine was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She cherished every moment spent with her family and created lasting memories that will forever be treasured. She especially enjoyed shopping, cooking, crafting, and spending time with the people she loved most. Whether she was preparing a home-cooked meal, working on a craft project, or simply enjoying time with her family, Katharine's greatest joy came from making others feel loved and cared for. Her warmth, generosity, and compassionate heart made everyone around her feel welcome and at home.
She was predeceased by her beloved parents, William A. Lake and Patricia A. Lake.
Katharine is lovingly remembered by her children, Jason W. Hashim of Fall River, Massachusetts, Justin R. Hashim and spouse, Jessica of Tiverton, Rhode Island, and David F. Gomez of Dartmouth, Massachusetts; her stepdaughter, Rebecca L. Smith of Attleboro, Massachusetts; her beloved grandchildren, Bella, Desmond, Matthew, Landen, and Lana; her brother, Andrew W. Lake and spouse Patricia; nephew, Jonathan A. I. Lake; and her husband, Harold M. Smith.
Katharine will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
In accordance with Katharine's wishes, funeral services will be private.
