Obituary

IN LOVING MEMORY OF CARLOS M. ORTHA GARCIA

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Carlos M. Ortha Garcia, who entered into the Lord's eternal home on July 16, 2026, at the age of 83.

Carlos was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, but it was in Caracas, Venezuela, where he spent most of his life, built his home, raised his family, and created memories that will be cherished forever. In his later years, he made his home in Medford, Massachusetts.

He was the beloved husband of Altagracia Hernandez de Ortha ("Grace") and the cherished son of the late Manuel Ortha and Delia Garcia.

Carlos earned a degree in Economics from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV). He later completed specialized studies in HVAC at the University of Wisconsin and earned a postgraduate degree in Finance from Universidad Santa María (USM). Throughout his professional career, he held senior leadership positions at General Electric in Venezuela. He later founded and successfully operated his own HVAC company for many years before enjoying a well-earned retirement. Yet, his greatest accomplishment was never his professional career—it was the life he built with his family, providing them with love, stability, and every opportunity to succeed.

Carlos embraced life wholeheartedly. He loved to travel, exercised every day, and never lost his passion for soccer, a sport he enjoyed playing in his younger years. His Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his life. He remained actively involved in the Church, where he found strength, comfort, and hope.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Carlos will remember him for his humility, unwavering work ethic, perseverance, kindness, integrity, and the warmth with which he treated everyone he met. Above all, Carlos was a devoted family man. He honored his mother with deep love and devotion throughout her life and was a constant source of love and support to his sisters and nephews and nieces. His greatest joy was being surrounded by his family, especially as "Nono" to his beloved grandchildren—Aaron, Ariana, Philip, and Anabelle—who were the light of his life.

Carlos was a loving father to Carlo Adrián, Carlomagno, Karla, and Sasha, and a cherished father-in-law to Silvia, Franklin, and Paul.

Today, he is reunited in eternal peace with his beloved son, Carlomagno, who always remained close to his heart.

Carlos's greatest legacy is the family he built with love, the values he instilled, and the example of a life defined by faith, humility, integrity, and gratitude. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Benedict Church, 21 Hathorn Street, Somerville, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, July 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to join in celebrating Carlos's life, giving thanks for his many blessings, and entrusting his soul to the Lord.
