John Aubrey Mitchell

John Aubrey Mitchell was born on December 12, 1943, in Corning, Ohio. He was known for his strong work ethic, deep faith, integrity, and devotion to his family.
For many years, John worked for Mathis Moving and Storage, Allied Van Lines, where he earned a reputation for honesty and hard work. In 1993, he founded John Mitchell Two Guys and a Truck in Anderson, Indiana, and became a respected business owner and leader. He led with fairness, generosity, and encouragement, treating others with dignity and expecting the best from those around him. One of his favorite sayings was, "They put their pants on one leg at a time, just like me," a reminder that everyone deserves respect.
John’s greatest priorities never changed. He loved the Lord with all his heart and lived his faith daily. He was committed to the Church of God in Anderson, Indiana, and sought to live according to God’s calling. When asked about his favorite Bible verse, he did not name just one—he simply loved God’s Word.
The greatest earthly love of John’s life was his wife, Carol. For 60 years, their marriage was marked by devotion, faithfulness, and unconditional love. Their Christ-centered marriage was a gift to their family and a lasting example.
John’s love extended to his children and grandchildren. Every daughter believed she was his favorite, and every grandchild felt the same. He had a gift for making each person feel uniquely loved and valued.
Those who knew John would describe him as compassionate, caring, generous, dependable, hardworking, and steady. He was a loyal friend, a trusted mentor, and someone others could always count on. He carried himself with quiet confidence, humility, and timeless grace.
Outside of work and family, John was a devoted fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Indianapolis Colts, and Anderson University. He also loved many Collies over the years, but Kosar held a special place in his heart.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years Carol (Mathis) Mitchell, three daughters Sheri (Greg) Dotson, Shandra (Jeff) Holbrook, Shellie (Shawn) Greene; six grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; sister, KayAnn Kurtz.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Norman.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 12:30 PM at Chesterfield Community Church of God. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 4-7 PM at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service or 1 hour before the funeral at the church.
